About the Nasher Sculpture Center wedding venue
A mainstay in the downtown Arts District since 2003, this legacy modern art gallery and event space is perfect for the classic-yet-modern couple. After planning quite a few celebrations among its modern halls and elegant gardens (that collectively feature over 300 masterpieces!), we know a thing or two about planning the perfect Nasher wedding.
Ceremony and reception venue options
For the couple looking to say their vows inside, consider Nasher Hall, the center’s downstairs event space. The room’s floor-to-ceiling glass windows can be dressed up however you please — with luscious vines, sheer fabric or perhaps vibrant floral arrangements — and offer a great burst of natural light to illuminate the area.
Want to think beyond an indoor ceremony or reception? Choose the front or back garden for a gorgeous lawn celebration surrounded by luscious shrubs, shady trees (perfect for battling the heat at a summer wedding), and of course, a sculpture or two. Set up your band in front of the Richard Serra sculpture “My Curves are Not Mad”, plug in the provided fairy lights, and dance the night away.
Fun fact: we were the first planning team to ever do a reception in the back garden! Our venture was a rousing success, and the Nasher later began offering the back garden as a standard part of their wedding package. Trust us when we say you’re in good hands.
For the couple looking to really step outside-the-box, consider tenting over one of the venue’s water features. It’s a more costly addition to the already-stunning set-up, but has the potential to completely elevate your design.
What’s special about this venue?
One of the biggest draws to the museum is the location. An outdoor garden venue in downtown Dallas is truly unique. Being close to lodging and other attractions is convenient for your guests. It’s not everyday you find a classic-yet-modern garden oasis within a bustling downtown area.
To further sweeten the deal, the Nasher has four different inclement weather options. Whether the ground is wet from the night before, or there’s a monsoon scheduled mid-wedding, your special day can (and will) go on as seamlessly as intended. Simply move the party inside, or (if it’s not pouring) set up tables underneath the covered area off to the side of the building. Bonus: of all the weddings we’ve planned at the Nasher, not once has it rained. Consider us your good luck charm!
Why do you love working at this venue?
The staff at The Nasher Sculpture Center is incredible. We have formed a great professional relationship with them, and they have always been so accommodating and excellent to work with. They also have Wolfgang Puck in-house catering, and the food is always phenomenal— you really can’t go wrong with any culinary choice.
How do you transform the venue in different ways to make it unique to each client?
The gardens at The Nasher are made up of plenty of greens, which leaves a very neutral palette for design. Custom installations, vibrant color palettes, and trendy rentals are all great options when it comes to transforming the venue into the couple’s vision.
Who is the right couple for this venue?
The couples who choose the Nasher for their wedding are often creative, looking for a venue to reflect themselves in a romantic and whimsical manner.
If you’d like to get married at the Nasher, we advise couples to ask themselves a few questions:
Are you comfortable with a sculpture impeding on your floor plan? We do our best to plan around the garden’s current installations, but exhibits can change. In the event of a modern art switch-up, you might have to edit your layout. Creating a design and floor plan that embraces the art with your event is our specialty.
In the event of inclement weather, are you comfortable having your wedding indoors? If there’s heavy rain day-of, we will need to move your entire event inside. Any couple committed to an outdoor vision must therefore have the budget to tent outside.
And finally, do you like modern art? It’s certainly not a prerequisite to marry here, but an appreciation of the Nasher’s vision and its artists will certainly help you feel right at home!
Any “insider” tips for weddings at the Nasher Sculpture Center?
The biggest tip we have for this venue is to be aware of the setup time. You have access to the venue just three hours prior to your event start time. As seasoned wedding planners, we are well skilled in quick load in and set up at this venue.
What’s something you’d love to do or design at this venue but haven’t yet?
We are looking forward to doing outdoor ceremonies at The Nasher in 2021. Utilizing every part of the grounds is something we love to execute.
Incorporating the water features on the grounds is something we would love to design one day, with a clear tent over the water with trees that go through the tent. It brings the outside in and creates the feel of a greenhouse.
Since we have started doing more receptions in the back gardens, another dream is to design a floral installation with the Richard Serra sculpture as the perfect backdrop for the band.
Nasher Sculpture Center wedding costs
